The one ingredient I absolutely refuse to buy pre-made is buttermilk. Not only is it overpriced, it’s usually sold in excessive quantities (who ever needs more than a cup or two?). Thankfully, making your own buttermilk is incredibly simple. Two ingredients, which you probably have in your fridge right now, are all you’ll need, plus ten minutes or so. That leaves plenty of time for dreaming up what to do with your buttermilk… pancakes anyone?
For 1 cup of buttermilk, you will need: 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 cup of milk.
Add freshly squeezed lemon juice to a small bowl or measuring cup. Add milk. Allow to sit for 10 minutes. Stir before using.
