Ali MacGraw has always been a source of fashion inspiration for me, particularly her style throughout the 1970s. Perhaps best known for her leading role in the 1970 film Love Story, her relaxed approach during that decade was marked by somewhat of a bohemian vibe while remaining both classic and timeless. Although I've never really taken the time to read up on her life outside this period, while researching and gathering photos for today's Style Icon post I did come across some interesting tidbits.
For example, I had no idea that MacGraw worked at Harper's Bazaar as an assistant to legendary editor Diana Vreeland prior to her forays in modelling and acting. Her career quickly took off after her time with Vreeland, and she rose through the ranks from assistant to photo assistant to model to actress in a domino effect of sorts. She discusses this and many other aspects of her life in her 1991 autobiography Moving Pictures, and more recently in a 2010 interview with Vanity Fair.
But rather than talk your ear off today, I'll leave you with that article and a few of my favorite Ali MacGraw looks below. Which is your favorite?
