Today is English model and actress Jean Shrimpton's 72nd birthday, and as such we've decided to look back on her iconic 1960s style. Shrimpton's modelling career took off in 1960 at the age of 17, and her willowy figure, doe eyes and overall gamine appearance were in complete contrast with the generally aristocratic look of models in the 1950s. Her unique qualities catapulted her to fame and resulted in a number of nicknames including "The Shrimp," which she was not too keen on.
Shrimpton retired from the world of fashion in her early 30s, opting for a quieter life with her husband and son in Cornwall, England. In a 2011 interview with The Guardian, she discussed her current life and her decision to purchase the Abbey Hotel in Penzance, which she has owned and operated for more than 30 years. She barely mentioned her former career, stating: "I don't live my life through the prism of the past."
