Killington, Vermont (PRWEB) May 17, 2012

For 35 seasons, New Life Hiking Spa has welcomed people from around the globe to the Green Mountains of Vermont for hiking spa vacations. Each year, New Life opens for the season in mid-May and remains open until the last weekend in September. Founded by Jimmy LeSage, M.S., in 1978, New Life has become one of North America’s most recognized spa vacations.

“I came up with the idea of New Life after attending a six week yoga retreat in Val Morin, Canada in 1977”, states Mr. LeSage. He went on to say, “I had been living and working in Vermont for a few years after graduating with a degree in education from Florida State University and took the opportunity to use a ski hotel in the summers for my idea in 1978.”

The first twelve years of New Life Hiking Spa were spent in Stratton Mountain, Vermont and the program consisted of hiking, yoga, aerobics and healthy food. In 1990, he moved New Life to the newly opened Inn of the Six Mountains in Killington, Vermont where it remains today. In the early 90’s Mr. LeSage also received his Master’s Degree in Counseling and studied nutrition at Harvard University, which he uses for lectures and individual counseling sessions for guests wanting to learn how to deal with stress and obtaining or maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

SpaFinders, which is the world’s largest resource for the spa industry, has selected New Life Hiking Spa as one of the 25 Pioneer Spas which have shaped the spa industry as we know it today. New Life is consistently picked as one of the top ten spas in the world by SpaFinder’s Reader’s Choice Awards for hiking, solo travel, weight loss, affordability and fitness classes. In addition, in 2011, Jimmy LeSage, M.S. was chosen as one of the world’s top ten best spa managers.

In recent years, New Life Hiking Spa has been recognized as a top destination for weight loss and a healthy vacation. Since 2005, New Life has been selected as a top ten fitness vacation by MSNBC, and a top weight loss spa by Shape Magazine and Health Magazine. “In the past decade, there has been a major focus on healthy vacations and weight loss spas due to America’s expanding waistlines and reality TV programs that focus on losing weight. We have always been about health, hiking, whole foods and stress reduction since we opened our doors in 1978, but now there is a major focus in the media on the subject”, said Mr. LeSage.

For the 19 weeks a year New Life Hiking Spa is open, approximately 600 guests from all over the world come to visit New Life in the Green Mountains of Vermont. New Life Hiking Spa averages approximately 40 guests per week and employs an average of 35 people each season. Massage therapists, chefs, office staff, hike leaders and fitness instructors make New Life a caring and comfortable vacation where guests at any fitness level feel at ease coming alone or with a friend or partner.

Currently, New Life is in the summer edition of Yankee Magazine’s Travel Guide to New England and NewsMax Magazine, both on newsstands now. New Life Hiking Spa was chosen in Yankee Magazine as the 2012 Editor’s Choice for “Best Place to Rejuvenate” and in NewsMax Magazine for “Best Singles Vacations”.

Reservations are now being accepted for the 2012 season.

About New Life Hiking Spa:

Guests at New Life Hiking Spa experience rejuvenation with an all-inclusive spa vacation. New Life offers mini-getaways of three to four days, healthy “Jump Start” packages of 5-10 days and an 11 night or longer Weight Loss Retreat. Prices range from $ 249-$ 219 per night and include a private room with a private bath, three nutritious meals per day, healthy snacks, guided hikes along the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail (three levels offered per day), yoga classes, fitness classes, water aerobics in a heated indoor pool, cooking demos, healthy eating lectures, and one massage is included for every three night stay.
StrandVision Digital Signage Communicates to Residents

(PRWEB) May 16, 2012

StrandVision Digital Signage and Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Inc. today announced that StrandVision digital signage is being used to stream information to residents’ rooms over the facility’s cable TV system. Mercy Center, a 140 bed facility, is comprised of a skilled nursing unit and a personal care unit. Owned by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Center offers a caring and compassionate environment for its residents.

The Internet-based system, installed by Guyette Communications Industries Corp. of Plymouth, Pa., carries information programming for Mercy Center’s 140 residents that includes a welcome message, as well as menus, activities, date, time and weather, bingo numbers and special events, such as birthdays and holiday greetings. Residents simply select the in-house channel on their television sets. The channel also is used to broadcast daily Mass.

The digital signage content is delivered by StrandVision over the Internet to a pre-configured Linux digital signage player that is integrated into the existing cable system. Weather, date and time information are updated in real time automatically by StrandVision while resident activities and notices are scheduled and posted by Mercy Center staff using StrandVision’s Internet-based Content Management System.

The system is working well. “Feedback from the residents is that they really like it,” commented Rich Heiser, Mercy Center’s tech who oversees the digital signage, information technology and other systems. “We’d like to add a few monitors in our lobbies on both our personal care and skilled nursing sides. We’re also considering adding another channel of programming in some of the lobby areas.”

“Mercy Center is making creative use of the digital signage system – sending scheduled messages directly to viewers in their rooms,” said Mike Strand StrandVision founder and CEO. “It reaches the residents where they spend the most time, which makes it as convenient as possible. The staff is able to post notices with minimal effort with the knowledge that it’s easily accessible to everyone who wants the information.”

Portal, AZ (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

Two leaders in ecotourism, the U.S-based Naturalist Journeys and Panama’s Canopy Lodge and Tower, team up this summer to offer a Green Season Biodiversity Workshop July 18-27, 2012. Naturalist Journeys, an adventure travel company based in Portal, Arizona, selected Canopy Lodge and Tower to host its first international wet-season adventure, after guide Bob Behrstock successfully led a similar adventure in Arizona timed with the summer monsoon rains. Monsoon Madness participants tallied up an impressive list of life forms, and clients were able to document many species for themselves with photography. While there are many excellent eco-lodges in the New World tropics, the Canopy Tower and Lodge’s owner Raul Arias de Para’s enthusiasm and assistance in the effort proved key to the selection. Naturalist Journey’s owner Peg Abbott says, “Raul is a relentlessly creative genius. After taking a remote radar station and turning it into an upscale ecolodge, he didn’t quit. He’s opened other lodges, and is working now in the Darien. For this workshop Raul opened doors for us to local experts on a variety of life-forms. He connected us to the Houston Zoo-sponsored amphibian facility in his home town of El Valle, a center for Panama’s frog and toad populations. There, scientists are working hard to understand the sudden decline of frog diversity in Panama before it is too late. He’s encouraged development of a dragonfly and damselfly list, knowing clients that experience their diversity are quickly won over as enthusiasts.”

Naturalist Journeys is known to take a broad approach to the sport of birdwatching, emphasizing science, conservation, and fascinating topics such as mating strategies, protective coloration, and other aspects of bird behavior to enliven its tours to the tropics. They found an ideal partner in the staff experts of Canopy Tower and Lodge, all self and mentor-trained rural Panamanians exhibiting lightning quick eyes, a good record for safety, and a high comfort level in the woods. Naturalist Journey’s guide for this tour, Bob Behrstock, has been stalking and photographing birds, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies for over thirty years. He pioneered birding trips at a time when there were no readily available field guides. This situation is still true for invertebrates, and Behrstock wants to change that. On a winter trip last year, he identified several new large insects for Panama, all within reach of the dining area of Canopy Lodge. Wanting to go farther afield, he compared notes with Canopy Tower’s lead naturalist Carlos Benthencourt. They discussed how to accomplish this, and the idea for a summer Green Season biodiversity workshop was born. Both wanted a program that would go beyond birding and one that would be interactive, so participants could help compile information for ongoing ecotourism, science, and education events hosted by Canopy Tower and Lodge.

While birdwatchers from around the world flock to Panama each year to see its avian riches, few know that summer brings a burst of diversity across the biological spectrum. Abundant moisture encourages plant growth and invertebrate life, in turn food for myriad frogs and toads, dragonflies, damselflies, and stunning large insects such as Harlequin Beetles, Praying Mantis and Katydids. Forms of life emerge at all layers of the forest, making the quest to discover it an engaging treasure hunt. Some of the life forms are stranger than fiction – some of Panama’s frogs display wild and weird head ornamentation; insects take on the patterns of leaves, and moths mimic others of their kind to economize anti-predator defenses without producing expensive toxins; their ruse keeps want-to-be-diners away.

While an impressive butterfly list is on the facility’s website, no similar list exists to date for dragonflies and other large insects. Naturalist Journey’s Biodiversity Workshop aims to fill that gap with a good start during this year’s July 18-27 adventure. Panama’s legendary dense lowland rainforest is no place to wander for the uninitiated, so a guided trek to seek out its dynamic life forms is wise. Its Pacific dry forest and intriguing mid-elevation montane forests provide an additional complement of species.

The workshop is designed for a small group of ten participants. It begins and ends in Panama City and features 4 nights each at Canopy Tower and Lodge. The full itinerary, cost and tour details can be found on their website. A list of Bob Behrstock’s publications and qualifications and some of his photographs can be found on his Naturewide Images website.

Columbia, MO (PRWEB) May 08, 2012

Columbia injury attorney Matthew Woods recently earned a $ 5.25 million settlement for his client, Nicholas Hanson, who was injured in a sport utility vehicle accident in Quincy, IL.

According to court documents, in the accident, the vehicle in which Hanson was a passenger crossed over the center line, and resulted in Hanson’s paraplegia after he suffered severe back, spine, and shoulder injuries. The vehicle was traveling northbound on County Highway 15 when the driver, Taussa Roney, crossed the center line and collided with a city bus. Roney, as well bus driver Becky Dawson and the city of Quincy, were listed as defendants.

The case, number 10-L-16, was brought before Illinois’ Adams County Circuit Court in February.

The settlement included $ 4 million from the city of Quincy, $ 1.1 million in underinsurance, $ 100,000 in uninsurance, and $ 50,000 from Roney. All but one of the payments reflected the insurance companies’ policy limits.

Attorney Woods estimated that his client incurred $ 991,000 in medical expenses, as well as an additional $ 1.7 million in future lost wages and $ 6-9 million in future medical costs.

“My client was dramatically injured in this case, and I think that affected the settlements,” Woods stated.

The estate agents North London at The Estate Company are celebrating recent successes that are bucking the market trends. The agency, located on the famous Abbey Road in St Johns Wood, North West London, specialises in sales, rentals and management covering areas such as St Johns Wood, Maida Vale/Little Venice, Regents Park, Marylebone, Hampstead, Belsize Park, Primrose Hill and West & South Hampstead.

The Estate Company is proud to be the one and only representative of the Guild of Professional Estate Agents in St Johns Wood, as well as being previous award winners of ‘Best Small London Estate Agency of The Year’. The Guild allows the agency to have a referral system with other Guild members all over the country, which has been proven to be a great success.

According to founder Darren Richards, the estate agents North London have recently been involved in several large transactions on both rentals and sales. One property is a house on one of the finest roads in St Johns Wood which came to the market at £5000 per week, which was let within days. The other was a property in the region of £2,000,000, which ended up going over the asking price and was purchased within days.

Darren says, “The St Johns Wood market is as healthy as it’s ever been with its traditional influx from overseas, as well as a strong domestic base market.”

The estate agents North London are now active in social media and can be found on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The agency has also created their own App which can be found on iTunes and has become very popular with applicants and clients. The agency has also had a tremendous response to its advertising campaign in the St Johns Wood underground station, where thousand s of commuters pass through daily.

Darren says, “I believe there are exciting times ahead for The Estate Company and I remain as passionate if not more passionate than I have ever been about the business. I feel that The Estate Company will continue to be the market leader in St Johns Wood.”

It’s a fact: well-prepared travelers are happy travelers. (Skógafoss waterfall in South Iceland)

Reykjavik, Iceland (PRWEB) April 28, 2012

Mention the word “Iceland” and most people think of quirky pop stars, snowy landscapes or volcanoes with difficult names. But isn’t there more that a savvy traveler should know about this increasingly popular tourist destination?

Icelandic travel agency Nordic Visitor certainly thinks so, which is why they recently launched their own Iceland Travel Guide on their website, not just to help customers prepare for upcoming vacations but also to show would-be visitors the incredible possibilities that Iceland has to offer.

Travelers can now find detailed descriptions about each of the country’s unique regions as well as interesting attractions as selected by the company’s own local travel experts. The travel guide also calms anxieties of first-time guests with practical information about Iceland like how to get there and—perhaps most importantly—what to expect with the weather and how to dress accordingly.

As for those interested in a road trip on the famous “Ring Road”, there are also plenty of handy tips about driving in Iceland along with information about rental cars and other extras included in a Nordic Visitor self-drive package, such as detailed road maps, free GPS, unlimited mileage, emergency assistance and more. Customers also receive a “Highlights of Iceland” booklet, a convenient hard copy version of the online travel guide.

Iceland has emerged as a travel hotspot in recent years, thanks in large part to its weakened currency, the Króna (ISK), and from earning top marks from major travel publications, including Lonely Planet, Fodor’s and National Geographic Traveler. The country is often cited as an ideal destination for travelers who want a good value and an off-the-beaten path experience.

Nordic Visitor offers a wide range of vacation packages in Iceland, with varying routes, durations and services. Accommodation is always included, and any itinerary can be tailored to customers’ wishes, such as extra nights or activities. Packages in Iceland can also be combined with tours in Scandinavia, Greenland, Svalbard or the Faroe Islands.

For more information about vacation packages in Iceland or other Nordic destinations, please visit http://www.nordicvisitor.com.

About Nordic Visitor: With offices in Iceland and Sweden, Nordic Visitor is a fully-licensed travel agency and DMC that delivers unforgettable travel experiences in the Nordic countries. Staffed exclusively by local travel experts, Nordic Visitor specializes in tailor-made itineraries that cater to customers’ needs and interests.
StudyDog software has helped more than 2 million children learn to read.

Los Altos Hills, Calif. (PRWEB) April 24, 2012

The long days of summer can be the best time for children to discover the joys of reading. According to Scholastic, students avoid losing crucial reading skills by reading four or more books throughout June, July and August. StudyDog officials say weaving reading into everyday summer activities helps kids sharpen reading skills while they are outside the classroom.

The StudyDog website has other suggestions for making reading fun for children.

“Set aside time for it each day,” said Deme Clainos, a spokesman for StudyDog, an online reading program for pre-kindergarten through third grade. “Summer is the perfect time to stock up on books and encourage your child to try new titles.”

Click here to see how parents help kids further their reading skills using an interactive program like StudyDog’s.
